What do I need to apply for a credit card?

Whether you’re applying for a new credit card or to increase your credit limit, we’ll need:

  • Proof of identity (if you’re new to Bankwest)
  • Proof of income
  • An idea of your expenses and debts.

How do I activate my card or payment ring?

An easy way to activate your card or payment ring is via online banking. Once you’ve logged in, select ‘self-service’ in the left-hand menu. Then, select ‘manage my cards’. Select the card or payment ring you wish to activate from the ‘cards to manage’ drop-down menu. Enter the expiry date printed on the card (if you’re activating a payment ring the expiry date is printed on the activation letter). Choose a new 4-digit PIN if necessary, and enter an SMS code to confirm your identity.

If you don’t have access to online banking, please call 1300 796 844 and follow the prompts to activate your card.

If you’re an additional card-holder, the primary cardholder needs to activate their card before you can activate yours.

My card has been lost or stolen. What do I do?

If you’ve lost your card but don’t want to cancel it permanently (in case you find it again) you can place a temporary lock on the card through online banking or the Bankwest App.

To lock your card through online banking, simply log in, and select ‘Manage my cards’ from the self-service menu on the left-hand side. Select the card you want to manage, and select ‘Lock card’ under the ‘temporary card lock’ section.

To lock your card in the Bankwest App, select your debit or credit card account, select the ‘Manage’ tab to view your account details and enable the ‘temporary card lock’.

If you’re certain the card is lost or has been stolen, after you’ve locked your card call us immediately on 13 17 19 if you're in Australia, or +61 8 9449 2840 if you're overseas, to have it cancelled and arrange a replacement. Don’t worry if you’re overseas, we have a handy table of international numbers below.

Once you’ve reported your card, please allow 5-10 working days for your new card to arrive. If you find your old card after you’ve had it cancelled, please note it can’t be reactivated, so please destroy it.

Things you should know

There is a limit of one Bankwest Breeze Mastercard, one Bankwest Zero Mastercard, one Bankwest Qantas Mastercard and one Bankwest More Mastercard per customer.

Please note that Bankwest Business Credit Cards are currently not eligible for the Bankwest Halo payment ring.

The Bankwest Halo payment ring is only available to Australian citizens and Permanent or Temporary Residents over 16 years of age with an Australian residential address. Fees and charges apply.

1. Foreign transactions are transactions occurring outside of Australia whether in foreign currency or Australian dollars including if you are in Australia (for example, online) where the merchant or the financial institution or entity processing the transaction is located overseas. No foreign transaction fees apply for Platinum customers. Other fees and charges may apply, including when using overseas ATMs.
 
2. Annual fee waiver and promotional ongoing purchase rate is available to new Breeze Mastercard customers who apply from 24 July 2019 until the promotion ends. Excludes product transfers from existing Bankwest credit cards. Rates are subject to change and exclude cash advances (rate 21.99% p.a. applies). Annual fee is waived for the first year and will be payable in subsequent years on the anniversary date of card opening.

4. More Rewards points:

More Rewards points are earned in accordance with and subject to the Bankwest More Rewards Terms and Conditions (PDF). Exclusions, limitations and points caps apply. More Rewards points are earned on eligible purchases only. Points earned and redemption values subject to change. The total More Rewards points (including any bonus points) that can be earned in each year are: 150,000 Points if your Card is a Classic Card, and 400,000 Points if your Card is a Platinum Card. More Rewards points (outside any bonus points) will only be credited to your account once you have spent at least $1,500 on eligible purchases and your account has been opened for at least 2 months.

Annual Bonus points:
Annual Bonus points are only available to new customers who apply for a Bankwest More Mastercard on or after 15 May 2017 and meet minimum spend requirements in any Year from Card Account opening. Eligible customers will earn: 19,500 Points if your Card is a Classic Card and you spend a minimum of $24,000 on Eligible Purchases in that Year; 75,000 Points if your Card is a Platinum Card and you spend a minimum of $48,000 on Eligible Purchases in that Year; and 115,000 Points if your Card is a World Card and you spend a minimum of $84,000 on Eligible Purchases in that Year. 5. What counts as an eligible purchase? Most purchases are eligible purchases except some things such as bank fees, gambling, government charges and anything else listed in Section 5 of our Bankwest Qantas Rewards Terms and Conditions (PDF).

6. Bonus Qantas Points Promotion:
The 90,000 Bonus Qantas Points promotion is only available to new Bankwest Qantas Mastercard customers who apply for a Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard credit card from 24 May 2019 until 31 August 2019, are approved and spend at least $6,000 on eligible purchases within three months from account opening. Bonus Qantas Points are subject to change. Bonus Qantas Points will be transferred to your account within five months of account opening. You are not eligible for this promotion if you upgrade or vary your existing Bankwest credit card to a Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard.

You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn and redeem Qantas Points. A joining fee usually applies. However, complimentary membership is available from Bankwest if you join at qantas.com/joinffbankwest.

Membership and the earning and redemption of points are subject to the terms and conditions of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.
