Activating your card or payment ring

Using your card before it arrives

Before your physical card arrives in the mail you can access your digital card details in our app. This means you can start using it right away in some cases where a physical card isn’t needed (like online shopping, Apple Pay and Google Pay™). You can also set up and manage direct debits before your card arrives.

To access your card:

  1. Head to the ‘Cards’ tab
  2. Choose your new card from the list
  3. Go to ‘View card details’ to start.

If you've accessed your digital card before your physical card arrives, you’ll need to activate it using the instructions you receive with it.

How do I activate my card or payment ring after it arrives?

After your physical card or payment ring arrives in the mail, you'll need to activate it in our app or in Bankwest Online Banking (BOB).

In the app:

  1. Head to the ‘Cards’ tab
  2. Choose your new card or payment ring from the list
  3. Go to ‘Activate’ to start.


  1. Choose 'Self service' from the left-hand menu
  2. Head to 'Manage my cards'
  3. Choose your card or payment ring from the 'Cards to manage' drop-down menu
  4. Enter the expiry date printed on the card. If you're activating a payment ring, the expiry date is printed on the activation letter.

You'll be asked to set a card PIN, but you can also change your PIN at any time.

If you don’t have access to our app or online banking, call us on 1300 796 844 and follow the prompts to activate your card or payment ring.

If you’re an additional cardholder, the primary cardholder needs to activate their card before you can use yours.
