What do I need to apply for a credit card?

If you're ready to apply for one of our credit cards, we're going to need some information from you. Before you get your application started, find out the information you'll need to have handy.

Identification for new customers

If you're new to Bankwest, we'll need to confirm who you are (it's a security thing).

Applying in store

Pop down to your local Bankwest store with an original or certified copy of one of the following:

  • One form of primary ID with a photo (i.e. passport or driver’s licence) or
  • Two forms of primary ID without a photo (e.g. birth certificate and government benefits card) or
  • One form of primary ID without a photo (e.g. birth certificate or Citizenship papers) and one form of secondary ID (e.g. a utility bill).

Not near a store? No problem. Print out our Credit Card Identity Verification Form (PDF) and take it down to your local Australia Post Bank@Post outlet, along with your ID.

Applying online

You can skip a trip to a store with our electronic ID check.

Proof of income

Do you work for an employer? (PAYG)

You'll need to provide two payslips from the last 45 days.

If you're new to Bankwest you'll also need to supply three consecutive months of your most recent bank statements showing salary credits. Statements must show:

  • account holder name
  • financial institution name
  • BSB and account number
  • transaction history.


Do you own your own business or subcontract? (Self-employed)

We'll need to see two of your most recent Notices of Assessment from the Australian Taxation Office showing your earnings for these financial years. The notices must be from within 18 months of the application submission date.

Do you receive income from a...
self-managed superannuation fund?

You'll need to supply your personal tax return from the last financial year.

managed superannuation fund?

You'll need your most recent statement of superannuation balance including evidence of regular payments.

pension?

You'll need your most recent pension statement showing current payments.

rental property?

You'll need to provide a signed rental tenancy agreement or a monthly rental income statement from your managing agent.

 

Refinancing

If you're refinancing debt(s) from another financial institution you must also provide your three most recent consecutive bank statements for each debt being consolidated. The statements must show:

  • account holder name
  • financial institution name
  • BSB and account number
  • transaction history.
