Activating your card or payment ring

How do I activate my card or payment ring?

Once your card or payment ring arrives in the mail, you'll need to activate it in our app or in Bankwest Online Banking.​

In the app:

  1. Tap on the ‘Cards’ tab​
  2. Choose your new card or payment ring from the list​
  3. Tap ‘Activate’ and follow the prompts. You’ll need the expiry date printed on your card or on the activation letter for your payment ring.

In online banking:

  1. Click 'Self service' > 'Manage my cards'​
  2. Choose your card or payment ring from the list​
  3. Click the ‘Activate now’ button and follow the prompts. You'll need the expiry date printed on your card or on the activation letter for your payment ring.

Using your card before it arrives

You can access your digital card details even before your physical card arrives in the mail. This means you can start using it right away where a physical card isn’t needed (like online shopping and digital cards). You can also set up and manage direct debits before your card arrives.​

To access your card:​

  1. Head to the ‘Cards’ tab​
  2. Choose your new card from the list​
  3. Go to ‘View card details’ to start.​

You'll still need to activate your physical card once it arrives.

Other things you should know

When you activate your card, you’ll be asked to set a new card PIN – but you can change your PIN at any time.

How to make sure you keep your PIN safe:​

  • Don’t share it with family, friends or online​
  • Don’t write it down or save it to your desktop or mobile device​
  • Don’t give it to anyone else (even us – we’ll never ask you for it)​
  • If your card has been lost or stolen, report it to us in the Bankwest App by clicking on your card from the 'Cards' menu and choosing 'Lost, stolen or damaged card'. You can also call us on 13 17 19.

If you don’t have access to our app or online banking, you can also activate your card or payment ring by calling 1300 796 844 and following the prompts.

If you’re an additional cardholder, the primary cardholder needs to activate their card before you can use yours.​​
