How do I activate my card?

Using your card before it arrives in the mail

You can access your digital card details before your physical card arrives in the mail, enabling you to use it where a physical card isn’t needed right from the get go (like online shopping and in your digital wallets). You can also set up and manage direct debits before your card arrives.

To access your digital card:

  1. Tap on ‘Cards’ from the bottom menu
  2. Choose your new card from the list
  3. Go to ‘View card details’ to start.

Don’t have the app?

Once your card arrives in the mail

You'll need to activate it in our app or in online banking.

In the app:

  1. Tap on ‘Cards’ from the bottom menu
  2. Choose your new card from the list
  3. Tap ‘Activate’ and follow the prompts. You’ll need the expiry date printed on your card.

If your activate card option is deactivated in the app/online banking, you may need to set up an extra layer of security in online banking. Learn how to register for SMS code.

In online banking:

  1. Click 'Self service' > 'Manage my cards'
  2. Choose your card from the list
  3. Click the ‘Activate now’ button and follow the prompts. You'll need to provide the expiry date printed on your card.

Call to activate

If you don’t have access to our app or online banking, you can also activate your card by calling 1300 796 844 and following the prompts.

Heads up: if you’re an additional cardholder, the primary cardholder needs to activate their card before you can use yours.

We’ve said goodbye to the Bankwest Halo ring. This means it’s no longer available to buy, and we won’t be reissuing or replacing existing rings. If you already have one, you can continue to use it until it expires.

Other things you should know

When you activate your card, you’ll be asked to set a new card PIN – but you can change your PIN at any time.

How to make sure you keep your PIN safe:

  • Don’t share it with family, friends or online
  • Don’t write it down or save it to your desktop or mobile device
  • Don’t give it to anyone else (even us – we’ll never ask you for it)
  • If your card has been lost or stolen, report it to us in the Bankwest App by choosing your card from the 'Cards’ screen and choosing 'Lost, stolen or damaged card'. You can also call us on 13 17 19.
