How do I close my credit card?

You can do it in the Bankwest App or in Bankwest Online Banking (BOB).

To close your credit card in the app:

  1. Tap on ‘Accounts’ from the bottom menu
  2. Go to the ‘Manage’ tab
  3. Choose 'Close account'.

To close your credit card in BOB:

  1. Choose the card from your account list
  2. Select ‘see more account details'
  3. Choose 'Close account'.

Keep in mind

There might be transactions, fees or interest that haven’t been applied to your account yet. Although we’ll close your card right away, you’ll continue to get statements and will need to make at least the minimum monthly payments until the balance is paid in full. We’ll close your account 30 days after it’s paid in full.

If you want to replace a lost or stolen card, call us or message us – don’t close your credit card.

What happens after you close your credit card?

  • We’ll send you a letter confirming your account closure within 5-10 days
  • You won’t be able to use any cards or payment rings attached to the account
  • You’ll need to cancel and rearrange any direct debits directly with the merchant
  • If you have a Bankwest More Mastercard®, you’ll need to redeem your points within the next 30 days
  • If you have a linked cheque or savings accounts, you won’t be able to access it with your closed credit card
  • Your account won’t be visible in your account list, but you’ll see any outstanding balance on your eStatement or paper statement. You’ll find your eStatements in the ‘Closed accounts’ section of the eStatements menu if you registered before closing your account.
