How to set up PIN or biometric login

Log in to the Bankwest App faster and more securely with a PIN, facial recognition or fingerprint technology instead of your Personal Access Number (PAN) and password.

Start with the basics

Get started with a 4-digit PIN login. You’ll need to set up SMS code first.

  1. Use your PAN and password to log in to the Bankwest App
  2. In the ‘More’ screen tap ‘Login settings’ and follow the steps to choose and confirm your PIN
  3. Enter the SMS code we send to your registered mobile number.

PIN login is only available on the Bankwest App on compatible smart phones running iOS 9 or later and Android 5.0 and later. PIN login is not available on Windows devices. Terms of Use apply.

Don't have the app?

Once you’ve set up PIN login, you can then set up biometric fingerprint login (also called TouchID) or face recognition (FaceID), depending on your device.

  1. Log in to the app with your 4-digit PIN
  2. In the ‘More’ screen tap ‘Login Settings'. Toggle ‘TouchID/FaceID’ and follow the prompts
  3. Review and accept the Terms of Use and you’re all set up.

Fingerprint recognition is available on Android devices running Android 6 Marshmallow or later and iPhone devices running iOS 9 or later (except for the iPhone X onwards). Fingerprint login is not available on tablets and Windows devices. Face ID login is only available on iPhone X devices and onwards. Terms of Use apply.

What makes our app secure

Your security is our priority

Here’s how we create peace of mind when it comes to banking on the go.

These logins are more secure than traditional passwords, with benefits including:

  • They only work on your specific device – they cannot be used on any other device. This makes it much harder for fraudsters to hack your accounts
  • They can't be replicated, whereas passwords can be
  • No need to worry about remembering your password every time you log in – your biometric logins are unique to you and won't change.

With the same data encryption and protection in the app, your banking is just as secure.

We’re committed to keeping your data private and secure, and will always be clear about what we do with it. See our Privacy Statement for more detail.

Don’t worry if your phone has been lost or stolen – you can log in to online banking to disable the app from any of your registered devices. Just head to ‘Self service’ > ‘Registered devices’. Keep in mind, this can’t be done from the app itself.

Don’t miss important updates by setting up Easy Alerts for high or low balances, monthly fees, scheduled payments, overseas transactions and more.

We protect you from any losses due to unauthorised transactions on personal and business accounts when you have complied with our terms and conditions, and neither you nor any authorised user on your behalf have contributed to the loss.

This means that if you do have a loss resulting from an unauthorised transaction in online banking or the app and have taken the necessary steps to stay safe online, we will reimburse you the full amount of any funds lost. 1
