BankWest wanted to give the East Coast stores a very retail look, compared to the branches existing in the West Coast - not only of our own CSCs, but of our competitors. A concerted effort was made to take the design beyond the usual bank model so the traditional teller bays have been replaced with Teller Cash Recyclers, which allow more freedom of movement in store for colleagues and more interaction with customers. The new East Coast sites are also referred to as 'stores' rather than 'branches' as non-financial merchandise, such a money boxes and financial books, will be retailed within them.
Some meeting spaces have also been designed with movable walls, so that more space can be created in store, if BankWest decide to hold seminars for customers.
Traditional bank branches are often quite masculine, sterile places, so the new design incorporates more earthy tones with wood and cork flooring and feature lighting.
