Online Business Banking

What we do – and what you can do – to maximise online security

how we protect you:

Online Business Banking is a fast and convenient way to manage your business finances. At Bankwest we go to great lengths to ensure that it is also safe and secure. Among the measures we take to maximise online security are:

1. Security Tokens

A security token is a small device, designed to be attached to a key ring, which generates a random code every 60 seconds. When you log on to Online Business Banking you will be prompted to enter a number generated by your security token, together with your personal 4 digit PIN. A number from your security token is also required to make payments from your account.

2. Encryption

Bankwest deploys best-practice SSL and 128bit security encryption. This ‘scrambles’ all information travelling between your computer and our online business banking system, making it unreadable to anyone not authorised to see it.

3. Other measures

In addition to the above, Bankwest utilises a robust firewall to block unauthorised network traffic. This applies default 15-minute timeout controls to online banking sessions and Bankwest employs a team of staff to manually monitor online security around the clock.

how to protect yourself

Bankwest is committed to growing and maintaining a world-class online security system. We also want to ensure that our business customers are fully informed about the precautions you can take to maximise your own protection. These include:

1. Log on

We recommend that you only log on to Bankwest Online Business Banking via our website at bankwest.com.au, and never disclose your access details to anyone.

2. Avoid public computers

Bankwest urges customers not to access Online Business Banking using communal-use computers in public places such as libraries, Internet cafes or universities.

3. Update your software

Regularly updating your computer’s anti-virus and personal firewall software can help protect you against invasive programs designed with fraudulent or malicious intent.

4. Be wary of rogue emails

Internet criminals have been known to target banking customers with a scam known as phishing. This commonly involves sending an email – designed to look like official correspondence – asking you to enter your Online Business Banking access details by clicking on a link to a fraudulent website. Never access Online Business Banking or disclose your online access details to anyone via email.

5. Switch off

Other measures you can take to maximise security include turning off your broadband modem when not in use, and using a screen saver and screen lock when you leave your PC unattended.
