travelling overseas with a bankwest credit card

Access your funds overseas

Using your PIN, you can use your card to make cash withdrawals of up to $1,000 per day from over 1 million ATMs worldwide that display the Mastercard® logo. All cash will be in the local currency. Just remember, cash advances may attract a higher interest rate than purchases.

Notify us of your travel plans

Going on holidays should be fun. However it's important to remember there are fraudsters out there who take advantage of travellers being in unfamiliar surroundings and situations. By letting us know when you plan to travel overseas, we can keep watch over your accounts for any suspicious activity.

Please fill out the Overseas Travel Notification Form (via Online Banking) to advise us of your overseas travel plans.

When away from home, keep your cards and PIN secure

You should be as vigilant about your card security when you’re on holiday as when you are at home. Follow these guidelines to help keep your card safe:

  • keep your Bankwest card, PIN and online banking secure code safe and secure at all times
  • keep your cards in different places so you’ll have a back up if one of your bags is lost or stolen
  • never let your card out of your sight
  • carefully check ATMs and electronic facilities for suspicious devices. Normally, your card should only be swiped once. If a transaction is cancelled or unsuccessful, ask for a copy of the cancellation advice.

For more information on card security, including chip credit cards, read our frequently asked questions.

Please note: If you receive an emergency card while overseas, this is a temporary card only. Upon your return to Australia, please contact Bankwest on 13 17 19 so we can arrange delivery of your new card.
