Support for your credit card assistance

If you’re receiving assistance for your personal Bankwest credit card due to the impacts of COVID-19, here’s some information on what it means for you.

I’m receiving credit card assistance due to COVID-19 – what does this mean for me?

It means the interest rate is reduced to 9.00% p.a. and you pay no monthly repayments for at least the next two statement periods.

You won’t be able to use the card while you’re receiving this credit card assistance. It’s important to note that all transactions, including existing direct debits and recurring repayments, will not be paid.

Once your credit card assistance period finishes, your regular interest rate and minimum monthly payment set out in the Credit Card Schedule will start again. You will see this change on your monthly statements.

Taking advantage of this credit card assistance won’t impact your credit rating or appear on your credit file during the assistance period. Remember that your minimum monthly payment in your current statement should be paid as normal.

General FAQs

Answers at your fingertips

1

Are there any fees and charges?

There is no fee to set up this credit card assistance, but your current credit card fees and charges will continue to apply during the period.

2

How will I know if my application for credit card assistance has been accepted?

It will be automatically applied. If for any reason we can’t process this change, we'll call you to discuss alternative options.

3

Will interest continue to accrue on my credit card during the credit card assistance period?

Yes, interest will continue to accrue as it currently does – but at the lower rate – and will be added to your outstanding balance at the end of each month. As interest will still apply, we encourage you to continue to make payments toward your outstanding balance to reduce the interest amount you pay.

4

Can I continue to use my card while I’m receiving this credit card assistance?

No, you will not be able to use your card for at least the duration of this offer (all transactions including direct debits and recurring payments will be declined). However, you can have the credit card assistance removed at any time to regain access to your card. Existing periodical payments and direct debits should be reviewed and updated as required.

5

When will I be able to use my card again?

You’ll be able to use your card again on the next business day at the end of the month after the assistance period finishes. This may mean that your credit card assistance will end before you can use your card again.

Here’s an example – if the credit card assistance is applied on 4 May 2020, you’ll lose card access the next day. You’ll be able to use it again on 1 August 2020.
