If you have a personal Bankwest credit card and need support during this time, you can apply for credit card assistance.

How it works

If you have a personal Bankwest credit card and need our support during this time, you can apply to reduce your interest rate to 9.00% p.a. and pay no monthly repayments for at least the next two statement periods.

You won’t be able to use the card while you’re receiving this credit card assistance. It’s important to note that all transactions, including existing direct debits and recurring payments, will not be paid.

Once your credit card assistance period finishes, your regular interest rate and minimum monthly payment set out in the Credit Card Schedule will start again. You will see this change on your monthly statements.

Who’s eligible for this credit card assistance and do I need to provide evidence that I’ve been affected by COVID-19?

You can check your eligibility by navigating to the offers page via online banking or the app. Alternatively, you can contact us and we can check on your behalf.

Also, we’re not asking our customers to provide formal evidence that they’ve been affected by COVID-19. If you’re impacted, we’ll ask you to confirm that COVID-19 has affected your financial wellbeing.

How can you help me if I’m not eligible for this credit card assistance?

If you need additional support and are experiencing financial hardship, please contact us on 13 17 19 to discuss the support options available and what they mean for individual circumstances.

If I apply for credit card assistance, will it impact my credit rating?

Taking advantage of this credit card assistance will not impact your credit rating or appear on your credit file during the assistance period. Remember that your minimum monthly payment in your current statement should be paid as normal.

How will I know if my application for credit card assistance is accepted?

It will be automatically applied. If for any reason we can’t process this change, we'll call you to discuss alternative options.

Are there any fees and charges?

There is no fee to set up this credit card assistance, but your current credit card fees and charges will continue to apply during the period.

Will interest continue to accrue on my credit card during the credit card assistance period?

Yes, interest will continue to accrue as it currently does – but at the lower rate – and will be added to your outstanding balance at the end of each month. As interest will still apply, we encourage you to continue to make payments toward your outstanding balance to reduce the interest amount you pay.

Can I continue to use my card while I’m receiving this credit card assistance?

No, you will not be able to use your card for at least the duration of this offer (all transactions including direct debits and recurring payments will be declined). However, you can have the credit card assistance removed at any time to regain access to your card. Existing periodical payments and direct debits should be reviewed and updated as required.

When will I be able to use my card again?

You’ll be able to use your card again on the next business day at the end of the month after the assistance period finishes. This may mean that your credit card assistance will end before you can use your card again.

Here’s an example – if the credit card assistance is applied on 4 May 2020, you’ll lose card access the next day. You’ll be able to use it again on 1 August 2020.
