What do I need to apply for a bank account?

Find out what you'll need to have handy before you apply for an everyday transaction account, savings account or term deposit.

Identification for new customers

If you're already a customer you can skip this step.

Applying in store

Pop down to your local Bankwest store with an original or certified copy of one of the following:

  • One form of primary ID with a photo
  • Two forms of primary ID without a photo
  • One form of primary ID without a photo plus one form of secondary ID
  • Proof of concession, enrolment or apprenticeship documentation (if you're applying for a Student Account).

Applying online

You can skip a trip to a store with our electronic ID check.

Personal details

Whether you're a new or an existing customer, you may need to provide us with your:

  • name, date of birth, address and contact details (plus those of any additional account holders)
  • Tax File Number (this will ensure you don’t pay withholding tax on the account)
  • country (or countries) of residence and, if applicable, your tax identification number
  • linked account details (if you're applying for a TeleNet Saver, Smart eSaver or Online Term Deposit)
  • proof of concession, enrolment or apprenticeship documentation (if you're applying for a Student Account).
