Our story

At Bankwest, we foster a culture that embraces equality, diversity and inclusion. With 4.5% of our colleagues identifying as LGBTI+, we support all our people to be themselves, where they are equal and valued, regardless of gender, culture, age, religion or sexual orientation.

We are also proud to be involved in a number of events throughout the year in support of the LGBTI+ community such as Wear it Purple Day and World AIDS Day to raise money for organisations like beyondblue and The Pinnacle Foundation.

To serve our growing customer base, we need the best talent. We are committed to having a diverse workforce, an inclusive culture, and a work environment where everyone feels valued and has a sense of belonging.

The key to fostering this culture is Unity, our LGBTI+ network, which was created in response to surveys that told us our LGBTI+ colleagues felt less engaged and felt less safe to be themselves at work. One in five of our colleagues have now completed the LGBTI+ awareness training and we’ve seen engagement levels rise and an increase in self-disclosure rates.

We’ve also been recognised by the wider community for our excellence in diversity and inclusion – we achieved gold status in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) for LGBTI inclusion and won the AIM WA WestBusiness Pinnacle Awards for Workplace Diversity Excellence in 2017.
