On 14 July 2010, I set foot on Perth and Australian soil for the very first time.
I had heard of Bankwest and the amazing culture when I was in Ireland, so out of the blue, I got in touch with recruitment and low and behold, I started working for the bank the following week.
11 years later, I have held many roles. 7 and counting! That’s what is so wonderful about working for this organisation. You work hard, you have many laughs along the way and in doing so, you have so many opportunities to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone.
At Bankwest, we see colleagues for their true potential, not their race, colour, age, background or religion. We truly see each individual’s potential. It’s how we can unleash the fire in every colleague to be the best they can be and bring their whole selves to work each day. That’s what I love about the bank. Leaders here plant trees that they may never sit under the shade of.
We have the most amazing team at Bankwest and its these people that deliver brilliant customer experiences every day. We are Orange and we are proud to be.
At Bankwest, everything we do is for our customers, even if your role isn’t specifically customer facing. I’m particularly proud of the work we do to support and protect vulnerable people, whether this is alerting them to the dangers of elder financial abuse, preventing a scammer or working with a customer in financial or personal distress. This is what motivates us every day, and it’s something we’ve been doing for over 125 years. I’m really proud of that.
But Bankwest is also about its people, and its colleagues. There are times when it’s busier than normal, but everybody chips in and gets the work done together, as a team. These times are always hugely rewarding and fun. There are some weeks where I am preparing speech notes and briefing notes for multiple events and meetings, but I thrive on those times because there is nothing more satisfying than seeing your work come to fruition.
We definitely get to have fun along the way, there’s lots of internal events to take part in whether it’s gingerbread house making at Christmas time, or a hot cross bun blind tasting at Easter. I often have people tell me how fun Bankwest sounds as a place to work. I am also an AIA Vitality Champ at Bankwest which gives me the opportunity to champion employee wellbeing which I’m really passionate about.
A career at Bankwest has meant that I can balance being a Branch Manager, new mum as well as having some me-time, which is super important for me to be the best version of myself. When I'm not at work or spending time with my family, you'll find me at my local F45 class. I love it!
I've had a wonderful career at Bankwest which has spanned almost 7 years. I started off a Teller and quickly moved to a Consultant, moving across various branches in Perth. I've had some wonderful mentors who have really invested in me and helped me to be the leader I am today.
As a Branch Manager, I'm dedicated to showing the same commitment to those in my team, with the hope I can help them achieve their career goals too. The dedication to grow and develop people to be at their best is something truly special about Bankwest.
I arrived in Australia almost a decade ago and didn’t know anybody, so I was very fortunate to start working with Bankwest.
There is such a great culture, and everybody made me feel really welcome and part of the family. I’ve even made some friends for life here.
9 years on, I now have a family of my own as a father to 3 young children, and the flexible arrangements have played a key part in my journey both as a colleague and a parent. Even before Covid-19, Bankwest was really supportive of arrangements which helped family life, whether it be working around school runs, starting later so we can go to important school assembly’s, or finishing earlier to enjoy irreplaceable family time. When Covid-19 hit, we were already able to work from home too, so it was an easy transition as we were both physically and technologically ready.
I joined Bankwest 1.5 years ago as part of the graduate program straight out of university. Since working here, I have found that everyone is so approachable and supportive whenever I’ve needed help. There is no such thing as a dumb question!
The agile way of working at Bankwest allows me to constantly grow and there’s always new things for me to learn. The graduate program is really helping further my career, as there is a 2-year structured program that allows graduates to rotate across 4 different areas around the bank. Even as a graduate, you have the opportunity to develop solutions, challenge processes and create innovative products with the full guidance and support from your colleagues and leaders.
Colleagues and leaders value my thoughts and provide endless development opportunities and are always open to new ways of working and challenging the status quo, and with customer expectations always evolving, us techies need also need to evolve in order to deliver a brilliant customer experience by leveraging world-class technology.
