If you are a new customer to Bankwest, before we can open your account, we will need to confirm your identity by completing a customer identification check.

The Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act requires Bankwest to identify you before opening a new account or becoming a signatory to an existing account. The information we collect from you will be verified by the information contained in the documents you produce in support of your application. i.e. ID must be in the name you provided Bankwest during the application process.

To verify the details you have provided you will need to produce either:

  1. an original copy of a primary document with a photograph
  2. an original copy of a primary document without a photograph plus a secondary document

You can identify yourself at either of the following:

Take your identification documents.

Australia Post Bank@Post Outlet

Take your identification documents and the applicable Signatory Identification Check Form:

Please refer to the tables below for examples of documents you can use to verify your identity. Identification must be original documents in the same name, listing your full name and date of birth and/or residential address.

Primary Documents with a Photograph
Australian Passport (current or < 2 years expired)
Current Foreign Passport
Current Australian Drivers License
Proof of Age Card issued under law of an Australian State or Territory                            
Primary Documents without a Photograph
Australian Passport (current or < 2 years expired)
Current Foreign Passport
Current Australian Drivers License
Secondary Documents
Rating Authority (e.g. Shire) - Bill Sighted (<12 months old)
Public Utility Records - Bill Sighted ( < 3 months old)
Australian Taxation Office notice ( < 12 months old)
Children (under 18 years) - Educational institution statement specifying the name of the child and confirming attendance of the child at the institution and signed by a specified officer of the institution
