If you are a new customer to Bankwest, before we can open your account, we will need to confirm your identity by completing a customer identification check.
To verify your identity you will need to produce an original primary identification document with a photograph. Refer to the list of accepted primary identification documents with a photograph below.
To verify your identity you will need to produce either:
Identification must be original documents in the same name, listing your full name and date of birth and/or residential address. If written in a language other than English, an English translation from an accredited translator is required (NAATI translation).

We understand you’re busy, so to make things easier we offer a variety of ways to complete the identification check:
Visit any Bankwest store
Take sufficient identification documents to your nearest Bankwest store
Visit an Australia Post Bank@Post outlet
Complete and sign the applicable identification form:

For Student Account only - Get your teacher to certify copies of your ID documents
Print and complete the Student Identification Form. Get the copies certified by your teacher, doctor, pharmacist… Post them to Bankwest free of charge!
Overseas Verification of Identity
If you will be signing and executing your documents outside of Australia and need to have your identity verified for Mortgage purposes, the following instructions to complete Overseas Document Witnessing and Verification of Identity Requirements must be followed.
We are required to verify your identity per the requirements of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Act (2006) before opening your new account or before you become a signatory to an existing account. In addition, you will be required to verify your identity where you have any Beneficial Ownership rights in relation to a business entity structure, either as a result of direct or indirect ownership or control.
The information we collect from you will be verified by the information contained in the documents you produce in support of your application. i.e. ID must be in the name you provided Bankwest during the application process.
