Bankwest supporting bushfire recovery
09 February 2011
Bankwest has announced its support of the West Australian bushfire recovery effort by donating $100,000 to the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund and a further $20,000 to crisis support service, Lifeline.
Bankwest Managing Director Jon Sutton said: "Already we know that at least 72 homes have been destroyed in some of the worst bushfires that Western Australia has ever seen. "Many local communities have a long rebuilding process ahead, and we think it is appropriate that we play a small part in supporting them during this journey."
Mr Sutton added that Bankwest customers whose personal or work circumstances had been impacted by the bushfires will be supported by a range of hardship options. "There is nothing more important to Bankwest than our customers and we will do everything possible to help look after those people struggling as a result of these bushfires," Mr Sutton said. "Our staff will work with customers to determine the most appropriate assistance for each individual to make sure they have the support they need as quickly as possible."
The Bankwest Disaster Response Team can be contacted on 1300 556 554 or email@example.com.
Lifeline WA CEO Amanda Wheeler said the $20,000 would help the organisation answer an additional 1,000 calls over the next 12 months. "During the recent Queensland floods we recorded our highest ever volume of calls," explained Ms Wheeler. "Natural disasters create considerable distress and anguish. As a result of these bushfires, we can expect our resources to be stretched not just for now but in coming months. "We are very grateful for the donation from Bankwest. It will help to ensure that Lifeline WA continues to be available to support those needing assistance, including those affected by the recent bushfires."
To support the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund, donations can be made over the counter at Bankwest or on the internet to the Bankwest appeal account - BSB 306089 and account number 2770615.
