Bankwest makes banking easier for John Cleese

Bankwest is committed to making banking easier for its customers, including iconic comedian and actor, John Cleese – it’s all part of Happy Banking.

The international comedy legend stars in a new national marketing campaign for the iconic financial institution, launching Sunday July 6, demonstrating some of the ways that Bankwest is making banking easier for customers – and therefore making them happy.

Mr Cleese, a talented writer and comic genius, is renowned for portraying grumpy or surly characters on the big screen, and is perhaps best known for his role as the irritable and irrepressible Basil Fawlty in “Fawlty Towers”.

In the campaign, Mr Cleese portrays one of the most difficult of potential customers who is pleased with and appeased by the terrific customer service from Bankwest colleague, Katie.

Katie, who embodies all of the great characteristics of Bankwest’s knowledgeable and dedicated colleagues, is played by Mt Lawley-raised and WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) graduate actress, Elizabeth Blackmore.

Mr Cleese also leant his hand to scriptwriting for the campaign, bringing his unique brand of humour to the television advertisements being broadcast across Australia.

“I think the only way to achieve “Happy Banking” is by finding the right bank,” Mr Cleese said.

“In the case of Bankwest, I was drawn to the fact that they are trying to improve bank services – which is, after all, what we primarily want from them.”

Bankwest General Manager, Customer Communications & Brand, Paul Vivian said Mr Cleese fit the campaign perfectly as one of the great grumpy character actors.

“We’re thrilled to be making banking easier for John Cleese, who was more than happy to help when he heard that this campaign is all about making banking easier,” Mr Vivian said that customers value and appreciate Bankwest’s innovative and award-winning products and services.

“And they want us to make their banking easy for them,” he added.

“For example, the attributes of the Bankwest app, which is rated at 4.5 in the Apple and Android app stores, are highlighted in the campaign.

“And our recent Money Minder of the Year Award from Money magazine – the sixth time we’ve won it in the past seven years – reinforces the importance of our good value and user-friendly products and services to consumers.”
