Bankwest continues to drive online banking innovation with more accolades for new look website and new Android app

The Bankwest website,, has recently received another international award. The latest awards were presented at the 2011 Web Marketing Association's WebAwards.

Bankwest received awards for ‘Bank Standard of Excellence', and 'Financial Services Standard of Excellence' - one of only three banks to receive an award in both categories.

The Bankwest website was awarded exceptional scores in the criteria of Innovation, Interactivity, Technology, Content and Copywriting.

Bankwest Retail Chief Executive Vittoria Shortt said, “We are proud to have been acknowledged by WebAwards for our efforts in making banking online a more seamless and enjoyable experience for our customers.”

The website utilises functionality that is reflective of online shopping sites previously not seen elsewhere in the financial services industry and was recently awarded the 2011 Interactive Media Awards™ (IMA) Outstanding Achievement Award for the ‘Banking’ category.

Bankwest is also one of the first banks to have recently introduced customer initiated chats online through the new ‘Click to Chat’ service. The new initiative allows customers to chat in real-time to a Bankwest customer representative and ask questions as they think of them whilst browsing through product information pages on the new Bankwest website.

 “Click to Chat launched last month and gives our customers another way they can interact with us in real-time without having to call up or travel to one of our stores,” said Ms. Shortt.

Bankwest has also launched its new Android app which is available to download from the Android Market™ for free. The launch of this latest smartphone app is in response to the growing demand from customers to be able to access banking online from their mobile device.

 “Consumers are increasingly tech-savvy and we are striving to deliver innovations like this Android app, which make banking easier and more accessible for our customers,” said Ms Shortt.

Created in just three weeks, the innovative Android app replicates the Bankwest iPhone app experience, which was launched in February and has already reached 85,000+ downloads. The Android app benefits from the same technical and design standards. 

“This app will make life easier for customers on the go as it gives them real time access to popular features of Personal and Business online banking, including checking their account balances, paying bills via BPAY® and transferring funds,” Ms Shortt said.

Customers can use the app to search for the nearest Bankwest and Bankwest partnered ATMs and the nearest Bankwest Stores. The app also provides customers a list of handy contact numbers and a savings calculator.

The app is free to download and access to internet banking using the app is also free, however normal network provider data download and access fees apply.

 “We have invested considerable time into driving innovation in all areas of banking, in particular online banking, from this app, to our already successful iPhone app, through to our award winning website,” said Ms Shortt.

“As part of Bankwest’s ‘Happy Banking’ initiative we are continually looking for ways to make banking better for our customers. There is a lot happening at Bankwest and new online innovations are a big part of this.”
