Bankwest adds apparel to rugby partnership
18 February 2011
Leading West Australian based financial services provider, Bankwest, has increased their commitment to rugby in the state with a new apparel deal that will see their logo feature prominently on the front of the Emirates Western Force playing shorts.
The new three year agreement will extend Bankwest's imprint on the game in Western Australia after last year joining RugbyWA as the 'Official partner of Grassroots Rugby' and naming rights partner of the Bankwest RugbyWA Academy which provides a pathway for talented youngsters to achieve their goals of playing at the highest level.
Bankwest Head of Marketing, Paul Vivian, said the extension of their involvement in rugby was recognition of the synergies already being produced by two proud local brands.
"Bankwest is very excited to expand its association with rugby in Western Australia by becoming an apparel sponsor of the Emirates Western Force," said Mr Vivian.
"Bankwest has a long and proud heritage in Western Australia and we look forward to working together to benefit rugby enthusiasts, and the wider Western Australian community."
Bankwest's activation at the grassroots level has enabled RugbyWA to further expand their community engagement programmes which has seen more than 10,000 children take part in rugby education and development across metropolitan and regional areas in 2010 and that will continue to expand this year.
Rugby's participation rates in WA have rapidly increased since the introduction of the Emirates Western Force six years ago with double the number of players taking an active part in the game. Bankwest will assist in continuing that upward trend by providing a pair of shorts for every junior registered player free of charge along with the associated infrastructure, including goal post pads and corner flags, required for games.
RugbyWA CEO Vern Reid said the new deal further signified Bankwest's commitment to the growth and success of rugby across the full breadth of the code from junior development to elite performance.
"We entered a partnership with Bankwest last year confident the relationship would be mutually beneficial and this increase in their involvement in rugby is testament to the strong bonds that have already been forged," Mr Reid said.
"Bankwest's commitment to supply each WA junior player with a pair of playing shorts not only helps keep the costs down for families but also enables the kids to feel that connection with the elite players who'll also have the Bankwest logo proudly displayed on the front of their shorts.
"RugbyWA's activities are passionately executed locally while our unique brand is well recognised and growing both nationally and internationally. It's a position that fits well with an organisation like Bankwest and we're delighted to have them further commit their investment in rugby," said Mr Reid.
Bankwest joins a loyal group of partners who will feature on the club's apparel in 2011 alongside inaugural front of jersey partner Emirates as well as Volvo, ET Mining and TS Marine.
