Housing Density Report
21 February 2013
Australians are increasingly abandoning the traditional Great Australian Dream of a home on a quarter-acre block in favour of the convenience and affordability of medium density housing, according to research from Bankwest.
The Bankwest Housing Density Report, the latest addition to the Bankwest Financial Indicator Series, revealed that two in five (38%) Australian home approvals over the past 12 months were for medium density dwellings, compared to fewer than one in three (31%) only five years ago.
However, Western Australians are keeping the dream alive, bucking the national trend towards medium density housing in favour of the traditional home on a quarter-acre block.
The research revealed that only one in five (20%) home approvals in WA last year were for medium density dwellings - well below the national average of two in five (38%).
