UWA win Bankwest Cup
23 March 2011
UWA proved they’re a side to be reckoned with – winning the Bankwest Cup Grand Final in a 17-0 victory last week against the Associates. McGillivray Oval was the place to be with UWA’s first try coming just five minutes into the match, with Jeremy Smith scooping up the ball and smashing through defence to score.
The home side continued to dominate the contest up front with Associates’ scrum constantly under pressure however they couldn’t make it count on the scoreboard.
The second half was where UWA made the most of their dominance when Mark ‘Hollywood” Westcott crossed for a five pointer just after the resumption of play while replacement Jesse Fatnowna scored a converted try not long after.
The Associates were determined to get themselves back into the match with sustained attack but UWA’s defence held firm and they were able to close out the match without their line being breached. A great day of rugby for all!
