FUN FEST – Edmund Rice
20 July 2011
At Bankwest, we don’t really need an excuse to step back in time and be energetic teens again. All the same, Edmund Rice gave us a very worthy reason. Bankwest colleagues had a fabulous time volunteering at the Edmund Rice Camp for Kids Fun Fest which ran over three days.
Our fifteen volunteers joined the kids in games, sports, abseiling, high ropes, ‘leap of faith’ and general ‘hanging out’ time. There was a wide range of challenge based activities including high and low rope courses at the Point Walter Campsite… enough to keep everybody busy!
Fun Fest is part of the Edmund Rice support programme to further develop and enhance the work with kids on camps and mini-camps. It’s all about providing opportunities for kids to enjoy activities they wouldn’t normally get the chance to do. It also assists in developing their self-esteem, self-belief and self-worth, whilst being supported and encouraged by volunteers.
As part of Bankwest’s Community Engagement program, our volunteers took on the role of camp leaders. All involved say the kids were a wonderful, friendly and talented bunch of teens aged between 14 and 16. The kids gave all the activities a go, encouraged and motivated each other and, according to our volunteers, taught them a thing or two!
