Festival of Busselton
11 February 2011
It’s one of WA’s most popular beach holiday spots and in Jan 2011 Bankwest was the proud sponsor of the 47th Festival of Busselton – attracting more than 20,000 people to our beautiful south west.
Bankwest happily supported the Festival of Busselton to show our ongoing support and commitment to the local community. Kicking off from Jan 15-22, the Festival featured more than 20 free events showcasing everything that’s wonderful about the beach town.
Our Bankwest Busselton colleagues had a fabulous time and played a big part in ensuring the Festival’s success – many thanks to Busselton store manager Helen Lamera.
A highlight of the Festival is the Young Ambassador competition. With Bankwest sponsorship, the competition selected Callum Burwood (the first-ever male entrant!) as a Festival Ambassador and a Fund Raising Ambassador. Callum raised more than $8,000 during his campaign – representing MATES Men’s Support Group - organising sausage sizzles and raffles. (Our spies tell us he was also a willing and frequent target on MATES’ dunk machine!)
Callum’s first duty as the town’s Young Ambassador was to march in the Australia Day parade, assist at the all-important naturalisation ceremonies, as well as promoting Busselton at other functions throughout 2011. Other prizes for winning Ambassadors included joining the shire’s Sugito Sister City Exchange visit to Japan, as well as 10-day journey on the sail training ship Leeuwin.
Another highlight of the festival was the street parade, live performances by local bands, contemporary dance, sandcastle building competitions and indigenous cultural performances. One of the ‘stars’ of the street parade was Bankwest’s happy banking Sun..(who was reportedly inundated with photo opps).
