Bankwest help out The Shepherd Centre ..spreading happiness in the community
01 April 2011
The Shepherd Centre is dedicated to helping deaf and hearing impaired children reach their potential in the hearing world by teaching them how to listen and speak.
Last month Bankwest’s staff, from our retail sales division morphed into handymen and women, lending their renovating skills to the centre, which was in dire need of a good makeover.
The team of 22, which included colleagues from WA, tackled jobs like window cleaning, replanting the front garden and building a veggie and flower garden for the kids. It was a fun afternoon but, naturally, the highlight was seeing the happy faces of the kids who were all excited at the transformation.
“As parents were picking up their children you could see the delight on their faces that we were helping the centre achieve some much needed maintenance that they never have time for. It was great to see the effort we put in would make such a huge difference to the day to day running of the centre,” said volunteer Bethaney Hyatt.
At Bankwest, all colleagues are eligible to take one day of community service leave a year.
