Australian Business and Community Network programme
01 June 2011
At Bankwest we have a strong history of volunteering and, from April, our partnership with the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) has brought life to three programs; GOALS, Aspirations, Rise and Spark.
GOALS (Growing Opportunities and Learning Skills) is a special mentoring program for year 9/10 students which aims to widen the life choices for children considered to be at high risk of disengaging with school. The kids will engage in six topics, from goal setting to understanding finance.
Spark & RISE involves reading programs with corporate volunteers who partner with school students to offer weekly one-on-one reading and support.
Aspirations aims to give kids the tools to make informed decisions about their career choices and pathways after school. The students will engage in four workshops including ‘How do I learn?’ to ‘What employees want.’
GOALS and Aspirations run monthly until December and involves one day per month. for about 90 minutes. Students travel from their schools into the city, where sessions are held in either the Bankwest Tower or with another partnering corporate in the CBD.
Bankwest has 11 colleagues committed to the GOALS program for 2011, with eight mentors for Aspriations. It’s a great feeling to be giving the younger generation an insight into the world after school and help them realise their dreams.
