Reset your secure code without having to call us

If you’re registered for SMS code you can quickly reset your secure code online. You’ll find the link to the forgotten secure code tool on the online banking login page.

 Simply follow the on screen prompts and have the following things ready:

  1. your personal access number (PAN)
  2. the mobile phone that you registered for SMS Code
  3. answers to your secret questions
  • Why do I need to be registered for SMS code?

    SMS code is our strongest level of security. To be able to reset a forgotten secure code online, you will need to answer some secret questions and enter an SMS code. This is to ensure that your BOB details are safe and secure and cannot be changed without your approval.

  • It’s prompting me to enter a number to confirm that I’m human but I can't read the code?

    If you’re having trouble reading the number on the screen, then you can request another number until you find one that’s easier to read. Click on show me a different number to change the picture. If you’re still having trouble reading the number, please call us on 1300 440 749 for assistance.

What do I do if I’m not registered for SMS code?
We’re always here to help. Please call us on 1300 440 749 and we’ll issue a temporary secure code over the phone. When you next log on to BOB, you’ll be prompted to change your secure code straight away.

Does your secure code pass the strength test?

We’ve changed the rules so you can now create longer, more complex passwords. A strong secure code must be at least 8 characters in length, contain both letters and numbers and should include one or more characters (except for < > ^ ` { } ~ =.)

Our new strength meter will help ensure your new secure code passes the strength test. You can only save your new secure code once the strength meter changes from red (weak) to green (satisfactory/good). We recommend you go for gold and for the strongest rating - strong.

  • I’m being prompted to reset my secure code, how do I know this is legitimate?

    You should only be asked to reset your secure code once you have logged on to BOB. Double check that you are viewing the same screen below. If not, please call us straight away on 1300440749.

  • Why am I being asked to reset my secure code?

    You will only be prompted to reset your secure code once you’ve logged on to BOB if:

    • your secure code is less than 8 characters in length; or
    • you’ve spoken to the Customer Help Centre and requested that they reset your secure code. If this wasn’t you, it’s important to let us know as soon as possible by calling 1300 440 749.
  • How does the strength meter work?

    The strength meter turns green once your secure code is considered complex enough. This is calculated taking into account the length and combination of letters, numbers, characters and uppercase/lowercase letters.

    A rating of satisfactory or strong means it will be harder for somebody else to guess your secure code and gain access to your account.


  • How do I set a strong secure code?

    A strong secure code should be at least 9 characters and include a mix of letters (upper and lower case), numbers and special characters. Try not to include any details about yourself that can be easily guessed by somebody else, like your date of birth or phone number.

Keep your money to yourself by regularly changing your online banking password

That way, you’ll make it harder for somebody else to access your online banking details.

You can change your secure code at any time by selecting change secure code from the my details & security menu.
