Ownership

Bankwest first opened its doors for business in 1895, as the Agricultural Bank of Western Australia. In 1945, we became a trading bank and over the next 50 years, grew to become a market leader in our home state of WA. We changed our name in 1994 to the Bank of Western Australia Ltd and started trading as Bankwest, to allow us to better identify with our home state as a whole.

Today, we are a division of the Commonwealth Bank Group, which is one of Australia's leading providers of integrated financial services.

Our business

Bankwest offers customers both personal and business solutions within our diversified business, including the Retail division, Bankwest Business and Private Banking Services. We’re a bank that is active in all market segments - our lending extends to the business, rural, housing and personal markets, and we offer a full range of deposit products. We also arrange insurance and financial planning services through our business partners.

With an extensive network of stores and electronic banking facilities that include 24-hour telephone and internet banking, Bankwest is proud to be a market leader not only in its home state of Western Australia, but a growing force nation wide.
