28 May 2010

As we approach the commencement of the FIFA World Cup, we encourage you to take some simple steps towards keeping your personal funds and information safe and secure whilst travelling.

What you can do to ensure your World Cup trip is a happy and safe experience:

  • Advise Bankwest of your travel plans using our Overseas Travel Notification Form
  • Ensure Bankwest has all your up to date contact details, including your mobile phone number and email addresses
  • Remember to press "credit" when using your MasterCard Debit Card overseas
  • Regularly review the transactions on your Credit Card and MasterCard Debit Card
  • If you see a suspicious transaction report it immediately to Bankwest on 13 17 18 or +61 8 9449 2840 if calling from overseas
  • If your card is missing, lost or stolen report it immediately to Bankwest on 13 17 18 or on +61 8 9449 2840 if calling from overseas
  • If you are suspicious about transactions you have attempted but been declined on phone 13 17 18 or +61 8 9449 2840 for international callers

What will Bankwest do to ensure you have a happy and safe World Cup?

  • Bankwest will continue to monitor your Credit Card and MasterCard Debit Card for any high risk or suspicious activity
  • Bankwest will contact you to confirm transactions that appear to be high risk or suspicious
  • Bankwest may decline transactions that are high risk or suspicious - if we do decline a transaction based on this criteria we will make every attempt to contact you
  • Bankwest will block your card if we believe a transaction is potentially fraudulent - we will make all attempts to contact you, however in order to prevent further fraudulent spend on your card we may block your card even if contact is unsuccessful
  • In the unfortunate event that your card has been missing, lost or stolen, or your card has been blocked as a result of a fraudulent transaction, Bankwest will endeavour to provide you with an emergency card or cash so we can help minimise the inconvenience caused to you by the fraud

If you would like more information on the various types of fraud and how to protect yourself please visit our Personal Security and Privacy page.
