More than 300 people are expected at Leighton beach on Saturday February 7 for the third annual Disabled Surfing Association of Western Australia's Let's go Surfing Day.
The event, which has been running for 23 years nationally, involves allowing those with disabilities to experience the joy of surfing.
DSA WA president Bruce Peel said he expected a good turn out, with the event doubling since it's inception in 2006.
"Last year we had 75 people plus their carers and about 200 volunteers," he said.
"The volunteers we get are not necessarily surfers - we also get a lot of people who have heard about us and want to help out."
He said the day is very enjoyable and rewarding and urged the community to take part.
"When we take them out they are just blown away and you see a lot of big smiles- it's an amazing experience."
Mr Peel said a lot of effort goes into the day, including gaining sponsorship throughout the year to buy the free wheeler chairs which are responsible for transporting the disabled down to the beach, onto the surfboard and out again.
The DSA WA now has five wheelchairs - two are sponsored by Bankwest.
"We really appreciate Bankwest coming on board because when we first started out we had very little and had to carry people across the sand to the water. These chairs make the event so much easier," Mr Peel said.
DSA WA holds six events in Perth and in Dunsborough throughout the summer months.
