Commercial Changes at BankWest

19 February 2007

BankWest appoints David Thomas as Central Regional Manager, as a part of the Bank's restructure of its commercial division

BankWest, part of the HBOS Australia group, has appointed experienced commercial banker David Thomas as Central Regional Manager, as a part of the Bank's restructure of its commercial division.

Mr Thomas will join Kieron Gubbins, Southern Regional Manager, and Damien Otto, Northern Regional Manager, who will head up BankWest's Commercial division in Perth under the direction of Andrew Tolj, Commercial Business State Manager.

The aim of the restructure is to balance the continued growth of the division with the organisation's performance objectives.

State Manager Commercial Business WA, Andrew Tolj, said BankWest Commercial had grown more than 30 per cent in 2006 and the division had further growth plans for 2007.

"The new structure is aimed at growing our Commercial Banking division even further, particularly through industry specialisation," he said.

"We have a strong team in WA and David's role with further build on our strength in this market."

Mr Thomas is a career banker with over twenty years experience in the finance industry working predominantly in Corporate and Commercial.  He has undertaken business development and leadership roles with both Westpac and NAB during his career.  His most recent role was State Manager Business Banking with Rabobank.

Mr Thomas said Commercial Banking was about delivering outcomes and adding value to the customer's business.

"Markets are changing so fast that commercial customers need bankers who are ahead of the market and help maintain their organisation's competitive advantage," he said.

"Commercial banking offers me the chance to work with an organisation as it grows from a small business to a larger business across new territory, products, customers and markets."

Mr Thomas has a wide range of experience across a number of different of industry groups including property development, resources, agribusiness, professional services, manufacturing and general commercial business.
