Mount Pleasant resident Britt Salt has won the BankWest Contemporary Art Prize People's Choice Award for her artwork entitled Monoform Series (No.1).
The announcement signalled the closure of the BankWest Contemporary Art Prize exhibition, which saw just under four thousand people vote in the People's Choice Award.
Britt's winning Monoform Series (No.1) explores fundamental notions of form and space through the transparency of aluminium mesh and questions how form and space can be constructed.
Britt said the BankWest Contemporary Art Prize was one of the first major awards in which she had been a finalist.
"The BankWest Contemporary Art Prize was a great show to be a part of this year and I enjoyed viewing the different forms of media entrants submitted," she said.
"People became quite animated when moving around my piece so I think it struck a chord with the public as it was something they could interact with."
BankWest Managing Director, Rodger McArthur, said it was delightful to see so many people vote in the People's Choice award.
"This year we had a record number of people voting and Britt's piece was the clear winner," he said.
Earlier in November Olga Cironis was announced the winner of the $15,000 BankWest Contemporary Art Prize for her artwork entitled Essence.
BankWest has been running the Contemporary Art Prize for seven years and the prize has been awarded to a number of high-profile Western Australian artists, including Jo Darbyshire, Trevor Vickers and Alex Spremberg.
The BankWest Contemporary Art Prize is the richest prize in the state that is only open to Western Australian artists.
Britt takes home $2,000 worth of art supplies.
